Mayan Prophecy

This is the first comic of the new year! And what better way to welcome 2012 than by referencing the Mayan Prophecy?

The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar (also utilized by the Mayans) runs in long cycles, one of which ends on December 21st 2012. Of course, this is just the end of a "world age" in their calendar. More optimistic individuals would believe a new age follows, but the pessimists (and conspiracy theorists) have warped this into an apocalyptic prophecy.

Last year there were news reports that Mr. Lucas was very serious about the 2012 theories (coming from Seth Rogen, noted for his extreme news credibility). This was quickly followed by a tongue-in-cheek response from Lucas's representatives indicating it and a number of other loony theories were definitely true.

I just find it hard to believe 2012 will also be the year Phantom Menace also returns to theaters. (Bonus points if you read that in the Harry Plinket voice).
